”Bone by bone, hair by hair, Wild Woman comes back. Through night dreams, through events half understood and half remembered…”

-Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run With the Wolves

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.” -Winston Churchill

“…the shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water, but the blood of our ancestors…each ghostly reflection in the clear water of the lakes tells of events and memories…”

–Chief Seattle’s Speech

Restore, conserve, and preserve our waterways – lives depend on them.

The dance is strong magic: The dance is life.

~Pearl Primus

Dance is movement of the universe concentrated in an individual.

~Isadora Duncan

Whosoever knoweth the power of dance, dwelleth in God.

~Rumi

To watch us dance is to hear our hearts speak.

-Hopi Indian Proverb

“The basic human need to be watched was once satisfied by god. Now the same functionality can be replicated by data-mining algorithms.”

—Morpheus, Deus Ex

“Show your work!” Do math teachers still say that?

This is just a little bit of the messy business of creating something new and a few of the steps involved in my process of getting a dance from ear to “here.”

Just a few of the many gifts dance has given me over the years:

  • Appreciation for the art of cultures and communities different from my own
  • Long-term friendships and collaborations with creative, talented, fun, interesting, and supportive people
  • A wild delight in glitter, sparkle, light, and shadow
  • A creative outlet
  • A reason to get up and move
  • Confidence
  • Immersive, embodied experience
  • Discipline
