“The basic human need to be watched was once satisfied by God. Now the same functionality can be replicated with data-mining algorithms.”

“There is in all women a wild woman…

“…a wild and ancient gypsy that cries in anguish when we starch her flat…

“...there is a part of us that can never, ever be happy until the gypsy can dance.”

AROOOOO!

**howling in spirit with you at tonight’s full moon**

“By opening the door to the shadow realm a little, and letting out various elements a few at a time, relating to them, finding use for them, negotiating, we can reduce being surprised by shadow sneak attacks and unexpected explosions.”

Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype

On a sleepless night earlier this week, I used the gift of extra time and energy to do some reading that has been neglected on my nightstand for far too long. Since then, a particular passage in the book The Subway Chronicles: More Scenes from Life in New York, has been tapping at my mental chamber door all week. Author Jacquelin Cangro, recounted a scene that unfolded during her subway commute: a little girl got onboard the train with her father and soon after erupted into a spontaneous twirling dance accompanied only by the music inside her own mind. The author watched with amusement tinged by a wistful yearning for the sort freedom of expression that comes with being four years old.

I sympathize with the author — oh to be free from the trappings of adulthood — from the notions of decency and decorum, from responsibility and respectability, from the ‘shoulds’ and ‘Thou Shalt Nots,’ from the veils and gilded cages.

A tiny dancer still lives inside of these subways, chambers, shadows, and longings…

If we cracked the door open just a little bit, what would we see…?

Because it’s October 1st and there’s a full moon and life should be celebrated!

Hi! I’m still here poking around in old posts trying to figure out what this blog is about on its 10th anniversary year.   Creativity? Collaboration? I don’t know — I’m still working on it! I don’t have a master plan here. That’s probably why so many people that have blogs with posts on the topic of things like, “Make Money with Your Blog” like or subscribe to My Little Spacebook —  it’s painfully obvious I have no idea what I’m doin here. Despite my planners and goal trackers, I’m not the sort of person who has a 5-year plan. I’m just trying to get through today so I can give myself a gold star.

But Look! Here’s dance video of a duet we worked on for a bazillion hours. I haven’t shared this one yet. Hope you enjoy.

Mystic River Dance presented this dance in the show “Nature’s Rhythms” (February 2019, Memphis, TN).

Music:  “Mergence” by Safaa Farid’s Orchestra Negum (edited), and “Shimmabulous” by Issam Houshan,

Choreography: based on Ahmed Hussein, adapted by Jasmine, Sameera, & Valentina

Dancers: Mystic River Dancers Sameera & Valentina

Everything about this masterful work of art gives me chills – the story telling, the exquisite expressions and movements of the dancers, the collaboration, the controlled chaos, the costuming and makeup.  I came across it this morning by accident and I’ve been thinking about it all day….

It’s a lament, a call to action, and astounding art at once.

True Story:

Yesterday I went to work with my pants on backwards.

It wasn’t the first time.

I can’t be bothered by which way to put on pants.

I have a lot of goddess shit to do.
