I wrote this post almost 10 years ago. Today I stumbled across it while looking for something else and had a weird moment with myself – a sense of younger me telling older me what I really needed to remember. Reposting to stay reminded.

Last year Parker Palmer shined my teacher’s heart when it when was tarnished. His book The Courage to Teach got me through a teacher’s heart crisis and showed me how to teach (and live) with greater integrity.
Though untarnished this year at semester’s end I figured the teacher’s heart was due for routine maintenance, so I picked up a copy of The Heart of Higher Education: A Call to Renewal. Physicist Arthur Zajonc joins Palmer to bring educators back to the big questions underlying what we do. In this work lives the question: “How do we promote educational efforts that address the whole human being (mi

This is almost like asking what is the meaning of life! Egads! Was it you that posted “patience isn’t just bearing with waiting but actually feeling peaceful while you do it” (or something to that effect) ???
Really, I think you’re already doing the how:
“How do we promote educational efforts that address the whole human being (mind, heart, and spirit) in ways that contribute best to our future on this fragile planet?”
I always love what I learn from you. I shoulda known you were a teacher! Thanks for what you share.

I don’t recall posting that quote about patience, but that makes so much sense!
And the “how”…now? Be still my teacher’s heart! Thank you.

Hey there, I just wanted to let you know that my site is now private and I don’t know if I’ll keep blogging. I am part of a group protest against a certain portion of the wordpress writing community. There are a lot of reasons but primarily the misogyny as well as patriarchal religious folks as well as the paste your “positivity” HERE meme crowd have been incorrigible. One person said after copying all of one blogger’s work, that they should feel proud and take it as the highest form of flattery, after being caught. One guy keeps writing about how much he fears and hates women and then he proceeds to kill them all in his writing fantasies… he regularly trolls feminists, just by tagging them to come read his shit. Then there’s that stupid Grace girl who can’t help but tell everybody how to keep on smiling. She’s almost the worst one of all. (not really) But I want you to know I love you and your blog and really really got a lot out of wordpress almost solely due to you. Thank you for that!!!
peace to you,
kj

It pains me to think your beautiful and unique blend of artwork and wordswork with musical accompaniment and all the awesomeness you share would be missing from the blogosphere. I think you are fabulous! And I’ve learned so much from you.
