I just finished reading Wendy Williams’ The Language of Butterflies and I have a new appreciation for these beautiful and diverse insects. I highly recommend it!

Writing spiders are my favorite spider of all. They are everything a spider should be.

Captivating, lovely butterfly! I imagine there is much to learn about them.

Oh my gosh, yes. I was blown away by how diverse, and persnickety, and resilient and mysterious they are.

I love so many of your posts and am sorry I haven’t commented recently! We are in the midst of wildfires and it’s surreal… the west coast USA is unbreathable. All the forests are vanishing…
I was growing corn and sunflowers… and I managed to eat sum cobs and gather sum seeds… but I am afraid it’s pretty much over here.
My photos which I have yet to poet or post… seem like a bygone time. But I don’t wanna write about smog which is my ever present reality!
Oh well. A reminder to be grateful for now. For the beauty now.

I’ve so missed your poetry and music and images. And your comments.
My heart goes out to you and all devastated by the fires. I’m so sorry.
Thank you for the timely reminder to be grateful for the beauty now.
As I sit here pondering the world on fire, breath, poetry, and butterflies, I am having a little brain tickle about something I read in “The Language of Butterflies” – the book that originally inspired this post. Here’s the passage:
“The key to the Albany preserve’s species wealth is fire….Species here are completely fire-dependent. They are not only adapted to deal with recurring fire, but in many cases they have adaptations that require fire…Pitch pine and jack pine cones are closed until fire melts the resin and releases the seed. The fire also preps the ground with ash, nourishing it for the opened seeds.” (p. 139)
Hoping your beautiful expression will be renewed and released.

Thank you so much for sharing that with me! I love that passage. You are always inspiring. I think I’ll get that book in time!
We’ve had some rain in Oregon. It’s helping for now. I will be looking forward to reading more of your posts too. I’m really glad you are on the planet. 🙂
