I’m deviating from my norm here. Although I review a lot of books, I’m not usually inspired to write anything about movies. In fact I don’t think I’ve ever written a movie review. Last weekend though I saw Tree of Life starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain and I can’t stop thinking about it. Tree of Life is a work of art with a beautiful message. The cinematography reminded me of documentaries I’ve seen on I-Max at the Pink Palace. The story – and there is one, but you have to work a bit to piece it together – unfurls through astronomical and biological images, scriptural quotes, fabulous music, and impressionistic, disjointed scenes of the life of a family who has lost a son. It’s beautiful. It’s one you’ll want to see on the big screen.
I haven’t seen Terrance Malick’s other films (Badlands, The Thin Red Line, Days of Heaven) but now I’m curious about his other works. I’ll have to check them out.
Have you seen Tree of Life or any of these other movies yet? Any you’d recommend?

I haven’t seen this movie yet but if I do I’ll probably wait to see it on directv.
The only other movie I’ve seen by Tertence Malick that you’ve listed is Thin Red Line. It is the worst movie I’ve ever seen and don’t recommend it to anyone. It ranks worst on my list of ‘All Time Worst Movies”, along with Ice Pirates and Starship Troopers. Thin Red Line was so bad, that even with a cast of several well known stars, half the movie audience left the movie before it was over, and I’m not joking.

Direct TV for you IS the big screen! I forget people have these amazing TVs nowadays. I’m stuck in the 90’s with my old school TV.
I haven’t seen Ice Pirates or Starship Troopers, but now I kinda wanna have a movie marathon night and see all three on your worst list!
The only movie I’ve ever wanted to walk out of was From Hell with Johnny Depp. It was too graphic and violent for me. The worst movie i’ve ever seen was Amazon Women in the Avocado Jungle.

LOL @ Amazon Women in the Avocado Jungle! It sounds like it could be a porn movie!
Watch Ice Pirates…at least you’ll get some chuckles out of it.

I liked it a lot, but it’s a bit beyond the norm as movies go.

This looks so interesting! I might have to make a trip to the Pink Palace and check it out!

No, no, no…it’s not playing at the Pink Palace! It’s likely playing at a theater near you. I was just making the comparison that the visual effects and content of parts of it are lot like sciency iMax movies.

I have not even heard of this one!
It “reminds me”, in a way that it would remind a person who hasn’t seen it…of the movie “The Fountain” with Hugh Jackman–that had my husband and I talking together for weeks…
thanks for the recommendation!

I hadn’t heard of this movie, either. I’ll have to see if our awesome local library has it available!
